And as a precursor to the event, SABC2 is currently running a seven-part documentary, Have you heard from Johannesburg. The documentary is being flighted in the build-up to the ANC centenary celebrations that will be beamed live.

The documentary series is running on the channel until Friday at 7.30pm.

Have you heard from Johannesburg throws light on the global citizens’ movement that took on South Africa’s apartheid regime.

It reveals how every day people in South Africa and their allies around the globe helped challenge and end one of the biggest injustices the world has ever known.

It is an untold story of one of the most fascinating events of the last century. It captures a time full of violence, heroism and struggles, with real-life heroes and real-life villains. It’s a story that travels all over the world, from Africa to Australia, from Sweden to teh US. It’s a story of change. Read the rest of this entry »

Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s Birthday

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the lack of updates; RL has been super busy!

To update, twenty-six members of the choir will be flying to Cape Town this week to celebrate Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s 80th birthday.

As their birthday gift or him, the Choir will be performing at his book launch on October 6th and also at the Cathedral service during his birthday lunch on October 7th.

Meanwhile, the Europe tour is well underway–check our the Calendar section for all the show listings.

If you get the opportunity to catch the choir in action; please do let us know!  Would love to share your experience(s)!

Upcoming European Tour

Hi all,

Just spent some time updated the Calendar with the Soweto Gospel Choir’s upcoming tour in Europe that kicks off in a few weeks.

They will be visiting the UK, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.  Check back; as more dates may be added.

I’ve also added the first batch of confirmed concert dates for the Choir’s 2012 North American tour–already have the Toronto dates blocked off!  Cannot wait!

Be sure to check the Choir out if they stop in your neck of the woods–let us know how it goes; as I’d love to add your experiences and photos to SGF!

One love!

Elaine

Calendar Updated

Hi everyone,

Real life aka The Job is kicking my butt–been going non stop at work since Easter and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be slowing down! Trying my best to stay caught up with everything Soweto Gospel Choir!

I’ve updated the Calendar section with new dates–Fiji has been added to the Choir’s current Oceania tour (the choir loved, loved, loved Fiji the last time around; so I’m sure it’ll be the same!) as well as some dates for later in the year in Europe.

Also, the second choir is currently in Guadeloupe (French Caribbean) for the Blues Festival.  If I find anything from there; I will be sure to post.

More dates will be added once they are confirmed!

Thanks everyone.
