In Concert: Mandela Tribute

To commemorate the one year anniversary of Nelson Mandela‘s passing, I thought it would be appropriate to post a video of the Soweto Gospel Choir singing two well known South African songs that is part of Madiba’s legacy and history.

The first song, Lizalis’Idinga Lakho (Xhosa meaning Fulfill Thy Promise, O Lord), is a traditional Methodist hymn that is will known in South Africa as the song upon which the ANC was founded in 1912.

The second song, Thina Sizwe (Xhosa meaning We the Black Nation), is a struggle song about the black nation pleading for their land that was forcibly taken by the whites.

Both songs are featured in the second half of the Choir’s concert, with Zanele and Sibongile taking the lead in the version shared below.
